Stormy Winds or Calming Seas

A poem on getting up, when you're so often down

Whether they’re stormy winds
Or calming seas
There are lessons in both
And what they do to me
I look at ups and downs
Highs and lows
They are natural to this journey
Endless ebbs and flows
And there are those who know
Those who don’t
There are those who seek wisdom
And those who simply won’t
But on this note, I wrote down
The most important lesson of them all
Give yourself the time you need
But don’t stay down; stand tall

As I'm sure you've read from previous posts, depression is difficult to overcome. There are days where I simply cannot get myself out of bed. But I have learned that, when you're ready, it's worth getting up again. It's hard, and it probably gets harder every time. I know my self-worth is like a rubber band, it can break easily.
Nevertheless, I sometimes have to force myself to do some of the things I know are positive for my well-being: meditating, yoga, running, etc. All these things help make me feel better, despite not necessarily feeling good. It takes time to get into a better mindset, but I do believe when you can cultivate a passion(s) and hone in on a craft, it allows you to get out of that funk, so to speak, and continue growing. It's hard, but worth it. I write this knowing I'll get knocked again, but it's a reminder to continue getting up.
