The Promise

A poem by Debby Grayson
Fitfully, she sleeps.
He drips a potion on her burning lids,
lifts a misty veil,
reveals these dreams:
here's a pile of rubble,
and the quick whispers of a baby's breath
like laughter.
here's a black cave, its watery maze
guiding boy after boy
to light.
here's a coma,
letting go its long-sleeping guest
from endless night.
She stirs.
He steadies her frail shoulders;
slowly the halves of the sawn woman fuse.
He lifts her chin to dawn skies.
Hope makes a promise,
and she sighs.

Here's another featured artist, Debby Grayson, who is my cousin. She gave me permission to share some of her beautiful work on R&P! Proud to have her content on the site as she's a wonderful writer and even better person.
Debby let me know that this poem is about hope, as life has been difficult for everyone recently. I think it's important to express positive energy and vibes throughout the universe. What better way than in a poem? It's much easier to be pessimistic, or give up. But this poem is inspirational and offers the light that sometimes we cannot see in trying times.
Poetry is so beautiful, because it can say so much without saying much at all. It is poignant and heartfelt.
I'll be adding some more of her content soon!
